On June 16 & 17, 2011, we kind of sort of brought back Bible School, with a mini-event called "The Nature of God." This was the brainchild of two of our members, who wanted to give the children of our church and the area an opportunity to experience God through nature. We mixed in a little history, too, and had a wonderful time. We hope all the kids and adults who participated (49) in some capacity, either by attending, helping with the kids, supporting with artifacts, cooking two good meals, allowing us to use their property, etc. Here are a few photos of the two-day event.
The kids and adults enjoying
their time on the church grounds. We visited the Indian Burial Grounds,
the African American Cemetery, as well as other symbolic sites on our campus.
We took a tractor-n-trailor
ride over to Drennon Springs, stopping at many historic spots along the way.
We saw the black sulphur springs, blue sulphur springs, salt springs, the
Western Military Institute land (from a distance), the Crabbe Hotel property and
gazebo, and finally an ancient ice-age rock found in the area.
We were graced by being able to look through the artifact collection of Bobby &
Barbara Jones, collected when they lived on the property that formerly housed
the first Drennon Springs Hotel, The Grand, as well as the Western Military
Institute.
