To find out the most information possible about Drennon Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the quickest and easiest way possible, there are two buttons on the left to click:  "Photos" to see us and get a feel for who we are, and "Disciples Page", which is the official website of our denomination, and which outlines all the beliefs of our church.

Here are a couple of practical items, though, to help you know about what we believe and what you can find at our church:

Our Purpose:

As outlined in our Constitution, "The purpose of this church shall be as revealed in the New Testament to win people to faith in Jesus Christ and commit them actively to the church, to help them grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ that increasingly they may know and do His will, and to work for the unity of all Christians and with them engage in the common task of building the Kingdom of God."

On Communion:

According to The Design of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), "The Lord's Supper or Communion is celebrated in weekly worship. It is open to all who are followers of Jesus Christ. The practice of Holy Communion has become the central element of worship within the Disciples tradition."  Anyone who is a Christ-follower that comes inside our doors is welcome to partake of The Lord's Supper.  We can also bring Communion to you or someone else that cannot make it to the church.  Notice the red chalice that serves as the symbol of our denomination, on our church sign out front as well as the bottom left corner of this website?  That should tell you a little about how important the act of Holy Communion is to our church.

On Baptism:

The Design states that "just as the baptism represents the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, it symbolizes the death and burial of the old self of the repentant believer, and the joyous birth of a brand new being in Christ. Those who founded the Disciples movement taught baptism by immersion as the accepted form."  Commission on Theology further states that baptism symbolizes many things:  "new birth; a washing with water; a cleansing from sin; a sign of God’s forgiving grace; the power of new life now and the pledge of life in the age to come."  While our church teaches and practices baptism by immersion (fully going under water instead of being sprinkled on the head), we recognize all Christian baptisms.  You don't have to be re-baptized to become a member of our church, although you certainly can be.

On The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit:

The Design gives these affirmations on the subject:  "We rejoice in God, maker of Heaven and Earth.  We confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.  In the communion of the Holy Spirit we are joined together in discipleship and in obedience to Christ."  We believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

On The Bible:

Thomas Campbell, one of the founding fathers of the Disciples movement, stated, "Where the scriptures speak, we speak; where the scriptures are silent, we are silent."  The Design further states, "Within the universal church we receive the light of scripture."  We believe the Bible is authoritative and inerrant, and also believe that individuals are encouraged to interpret It.

On Drennon Christian Church (Disciples of Christ):

You can learn a lot more about our history by clicking on the "History" link to the left, where you will find lots of photos, drawings and information to help you know more about us.  Our church was founded one hundred forty-eight years ago as Drennon Springs Chapel, used by the Methodist denomination, then became a chapel used by both the Methodists and the Disciples, then in the 1890s became strictly a Disciples church.  We had a partnership with Port Royal Christian until 1926, when that church closed its doors and sent much of its building's materials to Drennon to renovate the Chapel.  In 1958, Drennon Springs Chapel formally changed its name to its current one.
